Up
until 1990, at the age of 37, I had never eaten sushi. I was
living in Maui, Hawaii
at the time and working for Kaiser Permanente. On a visit to Honolulu
my boss and friends treated me to my first "sushi experience".
They all had a big laugh as my eyes stared at the food being created
by our sushi chef.
What I observed from the experience was that sushi is the most artistically presented food I have ever seen. Much attention was given to detail during preparation in order to achieve aesthetic appeal. It's colorful, served with composition in mind, and has the ability to pull people together by the experience.
These
images attempt to capture and preserve this consumable form
of art. They make me happy and my hope is they touch you the
same way.
